Time to Say: Fuck Nintendo!

Posted in Commentary, Gaming these days ... with tags , , , , on September 20, 2018 by Rabidgames

Remember how Nintendo always pretends to guise the clothes of the only consumer-friendly company in a world of sharks? Well FUCK THAT!

First of all, yes. Nintendo sometimes pulls of good shit such as the Xenoblade Chronicle games or the Zelda games – although quite often you feel they would get -10% points were they released on more advanced systems. Take Breath of the Wild – great phyiscs and a big open world, something unseen on a Nintendo system. But not exactly innovative in any way. We’ve seen physics before, we’ve seen open worlds before, we’ve seen a stamina system before. And we’ve sure as hell seen breakable weapons before, although hardly ever that ridiculously.

But – apart from that, Nintendo is an incredibly backwards company (just look at their 50s style family presentations in their games) and above all, they rip off their blind sheepish fans wherever they can – and always get a way with it!

How, you ask? Well, imagine Sony games would never get cheaper. Look on Amazon for the price of Breath of the Wild – 50 quid. For a game that was releases way over a year ago! Imagine Sony selling controllers for 60 quid – and that’s the “Joy-Cons” (imagine frustrated folks buying them thinking they bought a dildo …). But the motherfucking icing on the shit cake is this, quoting Eurogamer’s slightly rose-tinted article about the terrible Switch online service (more on that below):

the gall to present those £49.99 NES controllers – which only work with the NES app and not with other games – as a privilege, something that Sony or Microsoft would surely never have the gall to attempt

Funny, isn’t it? Imagine Microsoft designing a retro Xbox controller that ONLY works with original Xbox games. Sounds fucking stupid now, doesn’t it?

And then that shambolic online service. First, you need a phone app for voice chat. If only a console could handle that … Second, you can back up some of your saves now that you have to pay to play online, but as soon as you don’t feel like paying, Nintendo fucking deletes all your cloud saves straight away! How fucked up is that?

But let’s be clear – Microsoft and Sony and their paid online is as fucked. We’ve become used to pay for a service that is often still utter shit. And Nintendo joining them doesn’t make Nintendo worse (in this regard). But – Nintendo isn’t better. Nintendo isn’t the motherfucking knight in shining armour rescuing gamers in distress from the evil dragons Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo is just the same, and when it comes to online, Nintendo is incompetent as fuck on top of the shit cake they’re all eating together.

But couple this with ridiculously overpriced pricing for peripheral devices, couple that with the always extremely high prices to buy their games, and we see the combined result: A greedy company leeching its devout fan base on a level only EA and Activision reach, while pretending to be completely different wearing the family friendly colourful disguise of someone who almost credibly cares. So here it is: Fuck Nintendo!

Of Exclusivity Whores and Their Manufacturer Pimps

Posted in Gaming these days ... with tags , , , , , , on December 13, 2014 by Rabidgames

Exclusives mostly suck. Not quality-wise, but from the customer’s view. No MGS4, Ni Nu Kuni, Uncharted or Infamous on the 360. No Fable, Forza, State of Decay or Alan Wake on the PS3. No Nintendo games anywhere else. Instead of one console from one manufacturer, we need three consoles to play all the games we want to play. Yes, that sucks. Completely.

But recently, it has gotten worse. Now, 3rd parties jump the exclusivity bandwagon, and no one profits but greedy publishers cashing in big time on exclusive deals. As a matter of fact, they are whoring themselves out to the pimps who want us to buy all consoles available. The only proper reaction from us should be a not-so-gentle “FUCK OFF YOU CUNTS!”

Mind you, Bayonetta 2 does not really count here. A developer usually needs money to work on a game. If Nintendo jumps in to finance an otherwise dead game, fair enough. It still doesn’t make sense to sell only a fragment of the copies on a console that doesn’t even cater to games like Bayonetta, but whatever. If it’s game made or game not made, okay.

However, when it comes to Rise of The Romb Raider or StreetFighter 5, we are all fucked, in fact double-fucked. The whores and the pimps alike shall grin at us while we pay for exclusive rights to have fun with a specific whore soon.

But the most appalling thing is that Square Enix and Capcom want to make us believe they are that poor they NEED that whore money from Microsoft and Sony. Yeah, right. Do you think we are really that dumb to believe that? If you go to the street to sell out yourselves, be at least fucking honest why you succumb to prostitution. Fucking liars!

Rabidgames spits: Shame on all parties involved. Simple as that. That’s all.

Microsoft Fucking it Up Again: EA Access and Exclusivity

Posted in News with tags , , , , on August 20, 2014 by Rabidgames

Microsoft never changes … Last year, they wanted to tell us once-a-day-online-duty, no more selling games and kinect were the future of gaming – and guess what, they were wrong. Granted, they have seen the error of their ways, but still they want nothing but to fuck us over again and again.

This year, their alleged contempt for gamers – their paying customers after all – is revealed once more during Gamescom. First, EA Access. At first glance, it sounds awesome: All your EA games for just 5 per month, or 20 per year! Amazing, right? Well, guess what: Not all EA games are included. Dragon Age: Inquisition, for instance, is not. So why paying money for old games? And what about DLC? Would you pay 6 pounds a month for Netflix if you had to pay extra for the second part of Breaking Bad’s final (and best ever) season? Would you?

Furthermore, imagine the likes of Activision, Ubisoft, 2K, Bethesda, Square Enix, Deep Silver and many more following the footsteps of EA – all of a sudden, you pay 50 pounds each month for your online gaming library (most likely NOT having the new AAA releases you’re yearning to play)! And that’s where awesome turns to awful … Not so great now, isn’t it? Besides, it’s EA. What about old games? Imagine you love FIFA 14 but not FIFA 15 for whatever reason, and then EA says bye-bye and switches off the servers. Your game is gone. That’s it. Not so great after all, right?

Second, the even bigger disaster without a doubt: MS proudly announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be a Xbox One exclusive – we all know the shitstorm that followed. Then Phil Spencer, that sorry PR tool, announced it’ll only be a timed-exclusivity deal, which makes it slightly better.

Still, that decision does not even make fucking sense! It pissed off everybody. Plus, no one wins. MS won’t hardly get any Xbox One sold – Tomb Raider might be a big franchise, but if you run Tomb Raider against Uncharted, well, you’ll lose. Plus, MS is back where they have tried to escape from for on year – many gamer’s scorn is upon them once more. They now have the reputation of giving a fuck about what we want, while Sony is “from gamers for gamers”. Of course, we know this is bullshit and both are corporations that want nothing but our money, but Sony has learned to sell this the nice way: A happy customers gives you more cash.

Square Enix on the other hand, oh poor, misguided naive Square Enix: you may have gained a couple of millions from MS, yes, but the PS4 is leading the next-gen sales, and it has better exclusives and more power to stay ahead in the long run! Square Enix, why do you bet on the weak horse? And why on earth you would even want to pit Tomb Raider against Uncharted, no one knows. The really puzzling thing though is the fact you were disappointed with last Tomb Raider’s sales – so your reaction is to halve the sales at launch and to compete against a direct rival? Give us a break, that’s insane! And yes, many PS4 gamers might be put off enough by your prostitution to kindly not give a shit about Tomb Raider in the future.

After all, it seems Microsoft has learned absolutely nothing. Getting in bed with the EA devil might work out now in the short term, but while they profit, us gamers might lose, our udders milked to the last drop once more. True, Rabidgames might be wrong and it’ll be fine, but come on, it’s fucking EA! Just take a look at their lists of casualties last generation, couple it with the fact they threw away every interesting franchise but poor and now crippled Bioware, and there is much more room for fear than hope!

Same goes for exclusives – be it timed or permanent ones, be it full titles or DLC. It’s all bullshit! There are no advantages whatsoever for us gamers, unless we succumb to the immensely stupid fanboy console war folly. We all lose out.

Rabidgames wonders: Sometimes, it seems Microsoft wants to lose. They play EA’s willing whore while pimping Square Enix, creating shitstorm after shitstorm – while Sony calmly smiles from the side-line and enjoys gamers flocking to their console. Quite ironic it was exactly the other way round last gen …

Leave Us Alone, Microsoft!

Posted in News with tags , , , on October 13, 2013 by Rabidgames

For the second time this year, Rabidgames has been pestered by Microsoft with this fucking annoying “YOUR ACCOUNT NEEDS TO BE MORE SECURE” bullshit after just turning on the Xbox 360 to play some Fallout New Vegas

FUCK OFF!

Why do you make this fucking shit mandatory? Oh, and it is fucking pointless, too!

If, let’s say, Jeff from next door (name changed, of course) hacks Rabidgames’ account, he is asked to give another email address – any will do – or any phone number to call or text. Again, any number will do. It is fucking pointless! Dear Microsoft, how does this make any account more secure? How?

In order to be sure, here are two simple rules: 1. Never put your debit/credit card information on XBox LIVE or PSN. 2. Never have more than, let’s say 1.000 points or 10 quid on your account. Even if someone, let’s say, John from the NSA (again, name changed) hacks it, he’ll be disappointed …

Rabidgames is pissed off: It seems this is just a professional and legal scam to get your emails and numbers. Well played, Microsoft. You know, sending an email to the address linked to a gamertag would have sufficed …

Microsoft Says Goodbye To DRM And Other Restrictions!

Posted in News with tags , , , on June 19, 2013 by Rabidgames

WE WON! Microsoft has just backed away from their policy which would have crippled our rights. No more 24 hours DRM, no more lending games to friends restrictions!

  • An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

  • Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

And have they really understood us? Maybe:

You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.

Thank you Microsoft. It doesn’t matter if your PR team started working after a long hiatus, if you are trying to unsink your ship or if you genuinely believe that you listened to us. The result matters. Our rights have won.

Rabidgames celebrates: We have to hank Microsoft, but even more important, we have to thank ourselves. All of us who went to the internet to vent our anger on Facebook, in forums, on Microsoft’s servers. Thank you, all of you. But let’s not forget the power we have shown. Let’s use it when Microsoft, Sony, EA, Activision or Ubisoft come up with the next idea which only benefits them and only hurts us. Let’s not forget – our feedback matters!

Why Microsoft Called It Xbox ONE

Posted in News with tags , , on June 8, 2013 by Rabidgames

So, Microsoft clarified some points with that Xbox One … making it all worse. The highlight certainly is the confirmation that as soon as there are any problems with your internet connections (just like, you know moving and having to wait to be connected again …) and as soon as you are offline for 24 hours, the Xbox One stops being a console and becomes nothing more than an expensive piece of electronic shit, sitting there without any purpose whatsoever. Thank you very much, MS.

But sometimes, one image says more than 1000 words. This one definitely does (even though it uses words):

XboxOne

Rabidgames wonders: Is it time to put our scorn aside? Microsoft is basically not just ruining their reputation, they’re also confirming their state of mental decay and absolute ignorance on a daily basis.

All-in-One? When it comes to bullshit, damn straight!

It might be time for pity soon (or gratefulness; Nintendo must be thrilled the Wii U has been picking up pace from the very moment Microft revealed the Xbox One) … but first, we’d like to watch them fail horribly at the E3!

Thank You, Gamers!

Posted in Gaming these days ... with tags , , on May 22, 2013 by Rabidgames

Yesterday, Microsoft tried to woo us with their Xbox One presentation.Well, that fell flat. No one was impressed.

But the real shitstorm started with the back and forth when some MS executives started praising their glorious ideas of “online once a day keeps piracy away” and especially the incredibly dumb sermon “with the 360, your son can play YOUR game in HIS room. With the Xbox One, he can play YOUR game on YOUR console (only)”.

They really thought we were that dumb, didn’t they?

Thankfully, the rebel alliance of gaminghood managed to strike back: Microsoft got bucket loads of ridicule, scorn and good old sarcasm heaped onto their stunned heads. Thanks guys, thank you very much. It really seems everyone in Redmond was deluded into believing we would all be happy sheep bleating “Xbox One!, Xbox One!” after being fed a lacklustre demonstration of Big Brother Kinect and EA exclusive slavery. Miraculously, we are still one step away from being completely braindead consumer pets!

Now, the big question is: Will Microsoft learn from the fallout? Will Sony be able to exploit Microsoft’s attempted suicide? Will they even backpedal on treating us like mere criminals just because we dare to sell our games (and thereby get money to buy more games, a fact easily forgotten)? Fuck knows. Let’s just celebrate today’s shitstorm, folks!

Rabidgames smiles: Sometimes, the internet can make you angry. And sometimes, it makes you happy – especially considering the irony 90% of the ridicule was typed on Windows devices …

Xbox One: Will Games Be An Afterthought?

Posted in Gaming these days ..., News with tags , , , , on May 21, 2013 by Rabidgames

Well, now that the dust has settled and the hype has died down – very quickly, by the way, what’s there to say about the Xbox One?

Well, if you happen to be a fan of the social media craze or if you like to talk to Kinect (which can now read your emotions better than your wife/husband/parent), you might be happy Microsoft bunny.

If we talk about games, it’s different. Sure, EA is now a big partner, and FIFA’s Ultimate Team (which is not more than yet another microtransaction-fueled rip-off machine) will be an exclusive, there’s going to be new Halos and Forzas (who would have thought?), and oh yes, we got new material of the coming overhyped Call of Duty: Ghosts which might get yet another special deal on the Xbox One. Well, look at that:

This fucking patriotic shit looks like a fucking recruitment ad for some fucking army. It disgusts Rabidgames to no end! Of course, there’s no gameplay material, just shiny pictures glorifying war. Hooray!

Oh, there’s another revolutionary idea! Apparently, we can use our TV to … watch TV! Thanks to the Xbox One. Thank you Microsoft. You’re the best.

There’s some more news trickling in, and all of it is bullshit: No backwards compatibility, and a fee for used games. Seriously, fuck off, you greedy cunts!

Rabidgames is annoyed: Sony 1, Microsoft -1. That’s all.

Always Online: Curse or Blessing?

Posted in Gaming these days ... with tags , , , , on April 21, 2013 by Rabidgames

The likes of EA, Activision and Microsoft won’t ever tire of telling us that “always online” is the future – and sure, they have a point. But there are undeniable problems when “always online” stops being a choice and we HAVE to be always online!

1. Is it possible? Well, it depends where you live. London, New York, Berlin, Sydney, no problems there. But what about villages in the countryside? There are whole areas with slow connections, for example in Germany, where the fastest available speed is DSL1000. And then, let’s talk about broadband in London. At times, it’s horrible: Slowdowns, it’s broken for days etc. Imagine your router breaks down or some somewhere outside cable melts – that’ll mean you won’t be able to use your console for days. Above all that, look at the publishers’ inability to get their stuff working for launch – how the fuck can you be surprised millions want to play your games when it’s called Diablo or Sim City? That’s plain insane! It seems it is not just our infrastructure, but theirs as well.

2. Is it good for us? No, it’s not. We went from expecting a functional game on day 1 to be glad there’s a day 1 patch to make games playable. Microsoft and Sony don’t give a shit about functionality of games released on their platforms anymore. They should send games back to the publishers and tell them “come back when it’s done”. So, no, patches and updates are no good in 99% of all cases. Plus, let’s not forget we can go online now whenever we want. But the decision should be ours when and if we go online with our consoles.

3. Why do they want it then? Besides patches, always online has many advantages whatsoever, but none of them are in the consumers’ interests – unless you like being spied on, being bombarded with personalised ads all the time, or you’re happy you won’t be allowed to resell turds such as Duke Nukem Forever in the future.

4. Why are gamers stupid? Well, that’s a damn good question. We complain a lot – and then we go out to buy the very games we are complaining about. Well played, us.

Rabidgames hopes: Maybe Microsoft will learn from the backlash and the new Xbox won’t work with always online. Maybe. But there’s also the scenario the next Xbox and the PS4 will have some built-in always online “switch” which will be activated at some point in time … after all, what will we do if have purchased the consoles already?

South Park: The Stick of Truth – truly sounds fun

Posted in News with tags , , , , on June 4, 2012 by Rabidgames

OK, Rabidgames won’t mention the rest of the crapfest that Microsoft’s annual E3 wanking – now with Kinect! – was. But South Park: The Stick of Truth is alive and kicking balls! Even more, we know the release date now: 5 March 2012.
Rabidgames can’t wait to explore the dungeons of South Park … and probably beat up some ginger kids, too …

Here’s the E3 trailer for this potentially awesome game:

South Park: The Stick of Truth has been the best piece of news so far. Sadly, Obsidian does not shy away from pre-order bullshit deals and 360 DLC exclusivity sell-outs – what’s wrong with the gaming world of today? Is all this crap really necessary?

Rabidgames expects: A South Park RPG surely is a dream come true – let’s hope it’ll be a good one. Oh, and graphics will quite likely be shit but who gives a fuck?
